Saving energy is good for business
01 November 2006
Ever thought about doing an energy audit on your business? You might be surprised at the results.

Our business is saving money and resources by making some simple changes - even little things can make a big difference. The key is to reduce and reuse.
- Use energy saving light bulbs
- Turn off equipment at the wall when not in use ("standby" mode chews a lot of power!).
- Buy Green Power from your energy
supplier to encourage investment in renewable energy.
- Buy a battery charger and use rechargable batteries where possible.
- Reduce heating and cooling costs by installing double glazing, insulation and window coverings. Check door and window seals are in good condition.
- Plant trees to provide shade in summer and use fresh air ventilation rather than airconditioning.
- Become a power producer - install a grid-connected solar power and/or wind power system
and reduce your power bill by selling excess power back to the grid.
- Send documents electronically (but don't forget to backup your electronic documents!).
- Communicate via email/phone or videoconfencing where possible and buy locally produced goods and services to save on transport costs and fuel emissions.
- Avoid extra trips by using Internet banking for paying bills, salaries etc. Ask
clients to pay by direct credit to your bank account and save bank fees as well.
- Make it easy for everyone to recycle - provide separate bins for recycling paper, printer cartridges etc.
- Shred documents and compost them (compost your coffee grounds and tea bags too).
